With the title won at the US Open on Sunday, Novak Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam and achieved an unprecedented sporting achievement that probably has no parallel in the history of sport. The numbers, records and statistics speak for themselves: Nole is the GOAT of tennis, perhaps the greatest athlete of all time.

Given what they have won and how they have won it, their dominance and their success, Djokovic can compete with superstars like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, Lewis Hamilton and Tom Brady, Lionel Messi, Pelé, Diego Armando Maradona and Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps can be compared.

The Serb has been winning for a long time and has been writing his own legend since 2008, the year he won his first major. 15 years later, he is still competitive with everyone, the strongest among all his rivals.

Who in the sports world has dominated all their rivals and won continuously for so long? Everything has to be put on the scale: physical and mental efforts, it’s one against all. Nole has done it and will continue to do so as long as his steely mind and supple body allow him.

Perhaps he won’t be a dazzling champion like Maradona or Ali: the Serb founded his empire on stability and regularity, both in his game and his results. He focused on a robotic tennis that defied history, with a devastating unpredictability for his opponents.

How can an athlete like him not be considered one of the greatest of all time, if not the best of all?

Djokovic spoke about this topic in the press conference.

The 36-year-old from Belgrade is now the most successful tennis player of all time in the men’s division in every respect, if you take the Big Titles into account, ie

the most important and prestigious tennis tournaments in the world (Major, Masters 1000, ATP Finals). Over the years, Nole has gained the upper hand over his eternal opponents Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, thanks in part to their absence and a competition that, despite his venerable age, cannot keep up with him.

Djokovic, along with the Swiss and the Spaniard, is considered the best tennis player in the history of the sport, if not the greatest. This recognition has been given to him by professionals, fans but also opponents due to the indisputable statistical arguments that he can demonstrate and the way in which he has achieved these successes.

However, the discussion can be extended to the broadest scope of all sports. Can the Balkan champion be compared to legends such as Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Leo Messi, Tiger Woods, Nadia Comaneci or Muhammad Ali? The world number one tries to give an answer to this question that was asked of him by the sports club: “I’ll leave it to others to decide whether I should be part of this discussion, but one fact is clear.

If I were not Serbian, I would have been in the Olympus of sports gods for many years, especially in the collective imagination of the Western world. But that’s life, I’m grateful to be Serbian, it gives me faith and hope and makes everything I achieve even sweeter.

I still haven’t figured out how many Grand Slams I want to win by the end of my career. I don’t have an exact number. I will continue to view them as the most important tournaments and want to play my best tennis there.

That will continue next season, or I don’t know how many more seasons I have left in my legs.”
