Dubai: Indian young player Shubman Gill has reached the highest rank in his career in ICC’s ODI cricket batsmen’s ranking. Gill scored a half-century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and rose from the third position to the second position, while only Pakistan captain Babar Azam is above.
This is the first time since January 2019 that three Indian batsmen have reached the top ten of the ICC rankings. Apart from Gill, captain Rohit Sharma (8) and Virat Kohli (9) have improved the ranking on the strength of their good performances in the Asia Cup. In 2019, Shikhar Dhawan was in the top ten along with Rohit and Kohli.
Rohit has scored three consecutive half-centuries in the Asia Cup. Kohli also scored a century. Other inform batters K.L. Rahul is at 37th position and Ishan Kishan at 22nd position. Rahul improved by 10 places and Kishan by two places.
Pakistan’s three batsmen are in the top ten. Apart from Babar, Imam ul Haq (5) and Fakhar Zaman (10).
South African captain Temba Bavuma, who is in good form with three centuries and two half-centuries in the last eight ODIs, has improved his rank by 21 to 11. The previous career best rank was 25.
Among the bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav has improved two places and reached the seventh rank. Jasprit Bumrah 27th and Hardik Pandya 56th. Hardik is ranked sixth in the list of all-rounders.
