‘Make Van Gaal national coach and the Germans will be favorites to reach the final’

Öztürk sees Van Gaal as a suitable successor. The journalist from Voetbal International believes that if Van Gaal is appointed, Mannschaft will immediately be one of the favorites for the European Championship.
Germany suffered for the umpteenth time in a row on Saturday, losing 1-4 to Japan. As a result, Germany has gone five games in a row without a win. The country does not have to qualify for the European Championship because of the guest role, but the German press fears an early elimination from the tournament. Flick was dismissed in the morning newspapers on Sunday, after which his dismissal became a fact.

In Öztürk’s eyes, Flick invited problems with his choices in Germany’s position. However, the journalist thinks that Van Gaal will quickly restore this if the German Football Association decides to appoint the 72-year-old coach. “Put Louis van Gaal there, with his logic and rules. He should be on the left and he should be on the right and he should not be on the left and he should not be on the right,” says the journalist from Voetbal International.
“With its structure and clarity, the Germans are favorites to reach the final at the European Championship,” says Özturk. “At the moment there is only one favorite for the European Championship: France. As it is now, you don’t have to play the European Championship. The rest just do whatever, including the Dutch team, just do whatever. Almost all national coaches just do whatever, except those of Spain, they had a fairly logical attitude.”

Former world champion Philipp Lahm also advocates Van Gaal as the new national coach of Germany in the German newspaper BILD. The 39-year-old Lahm, who ended his professional career in 2017, knows Van Gaal from his time at Bayern Munich. The pair worked together there between 2009 and 2011.
Van Gaal is also praised by Lahm for his discipline, order and the structure with which he allows his teams to play. “And he conveys that very clearly. At Bayern he was the right man who shaped the club at the right time with his approach to the game,” said Lahm. “He is a strong personality with a lot of experience, which he gained as a club and national coach in top international football.”
However, according to The Telegraph, Van Gaal is not in the picture of the German Football Association to succeed Flick. The DFB sees Julian Nagelsmann as the ideal successor to the dismissed Flick, various German media also report. Nagelsmann was fired from Bayern Munich in March due to ‘disappointing results’, but is still under contract with the German club. Sky Sport knows that Bayern are willing to sell Nagelsmann for free.
