Crisis in Romania-Kosovo Match: Banner Controversy Erupts in EURO 2024 Qualifiers

WALL – A banner crisis broke out in the Romania – Kosovo match in the 6th week of the 2024 European Football Championship (EURO 2024) Qualifiers.

On the last day of the 6th week of the EURO 2024 Qualifiers, matches were played in groups A, C, F and I.

In the highlight of the night, Italy defeated Ukraine, which it hosted at home, 2-1 with goals from Davide Frattesi. Andriy Yarmolenko scored the guest team’s only goal.

During the Romania-Kosovo match played in Group I, a banner “Kosovo is Serbia” was opened in the Romanian stands. At the 20th minute, the players of both teams went to the locker room. Kosovo National Team players refused to play the match before the banner was taken down.

The match restarted after approximately an hour’s break, with Romania scoring in the 83rd minute with Nicolae Stanciu scoring 90+3. They won 2-0 with goals from Valentin Mihaila in the minute.

While Beşiktaş’s Milot Rashica was on the field in the first 11 of the Kosovo National Team, former Fenerbahçe’s Vedat Muriç received a red card in the 42nd minute.
