A 9-year-old boy who is being treated at a private hospital in Kozhikode, a 25-year-old maternal uncle, a 40-year-old man who died yesterday, and a 47-year-old man who died first were confirmed to have Nipah. Neighboring districts like Kannur, Wayanad and Malappuram have also been put on alert in the context of the confirmation of Nipah. Availability of monoclonal antibody for treatment of Nipah patients in private hospitals has been assured with ICMR.

Due to the occurrence of 2 unnatural deaths due to fever in Kozhikode district, the health department had already issued an alert yesterday. The samples were sent to the Punai Institute of Virology to confirm whether it was Nipah and intensified containment efforts. As soon as it was known, operations were started to strengthen the defense in advance. Surveillance operations were also started in the area. Under the leadership of Minister Veena George, a meeting was held last night to evaluate the situation and take measures. Also, Health Minister and Public Works Minister Mohammad Riaz came to Kozhikode and coordinated the activities by holding various meetings.
An emergency meeting was held with MLAs of the district, people’s representatives of the affected areas, district collector, senior officials of the health department and other officials of the district.
