Washington, September 12, 2023 (Xinhua) – Republican US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy called today (Tuesday) for opening an investigation to impeach Democratic President Joe Biden, against the backdrop of corruption allegations.
“I am directing the House committees to open a formal impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy told reporters at the Capitol.
He said the House Oversight Committee’s investigation found a “culture of corruption” surrounding the Biden family as Republicans investigate his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings before the president took office in 2021.
McCarthy has been under pressure from his party’s right wing for months to open an impeachment investigation into the 80-year-old president, who is running for re-election in 2024. /end of news/
