Universities in the Czech Republic are calling for an increase in spending on higher education and science. According to their representatives, spending on universities in this country is below the average for EU countries. They also want to agree with the government on a medium-term financing perspective, as Milena Králíčková, President of the Czech Rectors’ Conference, announced at a meeting of representatives of universities, unions and professional associations on Tuesday.
They gathered for a protest in Prague in the morning. Minister of Science, Research and Innovation Helena Langšádlová (Top 09 party) and Education Minister Mikuláš Bek (Mayoral Party Stan) were present.
According to Milan Pospíšil, chairman of the University Council, the long-term deficit in higher education spending amounts to 10 billion crowns (400 million euros).
