Chelsea summer signing Cole Palmer has explained his decision to join the Blues from Manchester CityPremier League champion.
Palmer signed a long-term contract with Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old, who featured in the England Under-21 team’s win over Luxembourg on Monday, said he joined Mauricio Pochettino’s squad because he wanted more opportunities to play in the first team.
“He was also named head of the French football team and was named head of last year’s French football team.
“This is a decision that was taken following the announcement of the European Commission’s decision to initiate a tender procedure for obtaining a driving license.
“The decision to join Chelsea was very important. When I left the training ground on Thursday, I knew I was going to London the next day. I was sitting in the car and getting ready to leave. I said to myself, “You’ve been here for 15 years.”
“I don’t know any difference. I have never been loaned. I never left Manchester. The only time I left Manchester was for holidays or away matches. It feels weird going there, but there’s no time to waste. I have to get started.”
A player with enormous potential
For their part, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley declared: “Cole comes in with experience of winning the Premier League and Champions League and adds further quality and versatility to our attacking unit. He has demonstrated his talent and potential in the most challenging environments and performed well on the international stage for England this summer at the European Under-21 Championships. He is undoubtedly ready for that next step and we are delighted it is with Chelsea”.
A billion spent at Chelsea
The transfer was concluded between Chelsea et Manchester City for an amount of approximately 50 million euros, bonus included. Cole Palmer for his part has signed up for 7 and a half years with the Premier League club. The arrival of the new Blues signing takes Chelsea’s spending on the transfer market under Todd Boehly and their new owners to over £1 billion.
