(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Young-seop and Han Hye-won = Secretary General of the Board of Audit and Inspection Yoo Byeong-ho filed a lawsuit against the government’s decision to sell stocks of a bio company owned by his spouse, but lost.
On the 12th, the 8th Administrative Division of the Seoul Administrative Court (Presiding Judge Jeong-hee Lee) ruled that the plaintiff lost the lawsuit filed by Secretary General Yoo against the Stock Trust Review Committee, asking “to cancel the decision to recognize job relevance.”
The court said, “Companies issuing stocks held by Secretary-General Yoo’s spouse are subject to selective accounting audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection, and in light of the scope of the Secretary-General’s work, it cannot be considered that there is no possibility of conflict of interest or unconstitutionality,” adding, “It is related to the duties under the Public Official Ethics Act.” I decided.
He went on to say, “When private and public interests conflict, it is necessary to guide the operation of the national system rather than leaving the judgment to individual conscience,” adding that the Stock Trust Review Committee’s actions were not an abuse of discretion.
When Secretary General Yoo reported the assets of high-ranking public officials in September last year, he reported the stocks held by himself, his spouse, and his children and requested a review of job relevance to the Stock Trust Review Committee.
Secretary General Yoo’s wife reported stocks worth 1.9 billion won. Among these, shares of unlisted bio companies such as GC Genome (Green Cross Genome) were worth 820 million won.
The Stock Trust Review Committee decided to sell these bio stocks as they may pose a conflict of interest, and Secretary General Yoo filed a lawsuit.
It is reported that Secretary General Yoo will not appeal this court ruling.
