NEW YORK — A food delivery driver, who was on his motorcycle, is hospitalized after being hit by a driver Monday night in Manhattan, the New York City Police announced.
The incident occurred around 10:10 pm in the area of W 34th Street and 9th Avenue when authorities were trying to stop a luxury van, which had been reported stolen from a parking garage, according to the uniformed officer. It was at that moment that the driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old young man, first collided with an unoccupied police patrol car and then ended up crashing into the motorcycle driven by the food delivery man.
The motorcycle became trapped under the truck and the 24-year-old victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital with a leg injury and is expected to survive, police said.
The 21-year-old driver was arrested, but it has not been announced if he has been charged. The passenger who was with him in the truck fled the scene and now the authorities are on his trail, police said.
This case is under investigation.
