New York Police to Hold Car Auctions: 500 Vehicles Up for Sale

NEW YORK.- The New York Police will hold eight car auctions in different counties of the City during September where they will offer about 500 vehicles.

Every month, the Police Department holds these auctions to sell seized cars that have not been claimed in a certain time.

Most of the auctions will be held in the Bronx, with five, followed by Queens with two and a final one in Brooklyn.

There are models from 2001 to 2022, of various brands and different conditions.

Those interested in participating in this type of auction must be over 18 years of age and will have to pay for the vehicle in cash at the time.

The authorities point out that the vehicles have no warranty once they are purchased.

You don’t pay fines for auctioned cars.

On the City’s website it is reported that, in vehicle auctions, the owner of the vehicle must pay all fines that are in court and fines and interest to redeem the vehicle.

Towed vehicles are sold at auction if not redeemed after ten business days from date.

The proceeds of the auction, after expenses, are used to pay the judgment debt. Expenses may include execution fees ($80), clearing, storage, booting, towing, advertising costs, auctioneer and plate removal.

Before offering to buy one of the cars in the auction, keep in mind that bidders must be prepared to pay for any vehicle they purchase as soon as they place the winning (highest) bid.

Payments must be made in cash. Anyone who is not willing to pay immediately should not bid.

Additionally, some cars may have a lien on them. Buyers purchase the right, title and interest in a vehicle, subject to any and all recorded liens.

“A vehicle subject to a lien remains subject to the lien after the sale. Any vehicle with a lien may be subject to repossession by the lien holder,” they say in the release.

It should also be noted that the Sheriff is not responsible for notifying bidders of liens on vehicles.

All vehicles are sold “as is” and must be picked up where located by the buyer.
