People don’t look too closely at the sky, even in computer games about space. Reddit user Yoraxx looked at it in Starfield – and was disappointed. Where the sun should have been, or more precisely, the closest star to the planet, there was… nothing. In this case, the lighting worked correctly, but its source was not displayed.
The player was able to get rid of this bug only by replacing the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT video card with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Too weird for a game where Bethesda and AMD are official partners.
The video card did not display the sun anywhere – on any planet or moon. The survey confirmed that other Radeon owners also encountered this bug. However, later several NVIDIA cards were found that reproduced the rendering defect, as well as several AMD cards of the 6xxx and 7xxx series, where it was not observed. Also, the glitch was not noticed on Xbox consoles.
However, rare cases of the sun working correctly on Radeon do not eliminate the widespread nature of the problem. Several gaming publications have already written about it, and players hope that the noise will attract the attention of Bethesda and AMD. Meanwhile, Yoraxx deleted the game until this issue is fixed because he doesn’t want to play this kind of game. It is quite possible that the modders will fix it sooner.
