German Students Set New World Record for Electric Car Range

The association, which calls itself “TUfast Eco Team”, has set a new world record for the range of electric cars, driving 2,573 kilometers on a single charge.

“TUfast Eco Team” was created by students of the Technical University of Munich, who had already gained international recognition with their aerodynamically polished model Muc022. In preparation for achieving the record, the car was once again modernized by installing a 15.5 kilowatt-hour battery, but the test track was set up in an empty Munich airport hangar.

The previous record was 1,608.54 kilometers, but the German students managed to beat it by a margin – when the Muc022’s battery was completely drained and the car stopped, 2,573.79 kilometers had been driven in 99 hours, which corresponded to a consumption of 0.6 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers.

Just a few more technical data: the single-seater Muc022 weighs 170 kg, has a motor power of 400 watts, and a drag coefficient of 0.159 cw.
