Stay Alert for iPhone 15 Fraud: Tips to Avoid Scams and Protect Your Personal Information

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Apple has officially stated that they will hold an iPhone 15 launch event on September 12 2023, United States time.

Even so, cybersecurity company Kaspersky reminds internet users who can’t wait to buy the iPhone 15, to be wary of fraud under the guise of selling Apple’s new cellphone.

Kaspersky said that this fraud is common, where fraudsters lure users with the opportunity to buy the iPhone 15 before its official launch.

Tatyana Kulikova, security expert at Kaspersky said, in today’s digital era, fraudsters will continue to adapt and exploit people’s enthusiasm for the latest technology trends.

“It’s important for consumers to remain vigilant, verify offers and safeguard their personal information,” Kulikova said. “Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it often ends up being a scam.”

Quoting its press release, Monday (11/9/2023), Kaspersky said that this scheme takes advantage of users’ desire to be the first to own Apple’s newest device.

A common scheme, fraudsters claim, is that they can provide pre-release iPhones and promise users the chance to get them, often at a premium price.

To secure these “exclusive” purchases, victims are required to make an upfront payment or divulge their financial information.

Additionally, users are asked to provide personal identification details such as name, address, and telephone number. Once the payment is handed over, the fraudsters disappear, leaving the victim without the promised iPhone and losing their funds.

In addition to the financial risks, these scams also raise significant privacy concerns, as the stolen data can potentially be sold on the Black Market.
