CHARTS: Eurobarometer
This is indicated by the data from a Eurobarometer survey conducted from 24 to 31 August 2023 among 26,514 EU citizens.
The survey shows broad support among Europeans for measures taken over the past year to protect against volatile energy prices, as well as for EU action to promote energy security and the environmental transition. The survey also confirms the broad consensus among Union citizens for a more competitive industry and clean technologies. Support for actions in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine is also high.
44% of Bulgarians do not agree that the European Union should continue its solidarity with Ukraine. Disagrees on this issue in the whole EU are only 22%. 76 percent of European citizens polled are of the opinion that member states should increase military cooperation among themselves. More than half of Bulgarians agree with this.
77% of surveyed European citizens agree that the Russian authorities should take responsibility for the war in Ukraine. 52% of Bulgarians agree, and 40% of them think that this is not necessary.
51 percent of the surveyed Bulgarians believe that Europe should not continue to support Ukraine financially. Only 28% of those polled in the EU as a whole are of this opinion.
57% of Europeans are “in favor” of supplying Ukraine with military equipment. And on local soil in Bulgaria, 56% are against it.
However, 88% in our country agree with the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukrainians. The percentage is even higher than that of the entire EU – 86%. This is not the attitude towards the reception of Ukrainian refugees in Europe. 36% of the surveyed Bulgarians are against it, while the overall percentage among the surveyed Europeans is 19%.
