Preparing to Remember: 22 Years Since the September 11 Terrorist Attacks

The city is preparing to remember a painful anniversary. Tomorrow marks 22 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11.

Almost three thousand people died during these attacks on the World Trade Center.

The first plane hit the North Tower at 8:46 in the morning.

Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03, another plane hit the South Tower.

Both skyscrapers collapsed within one hour and forty-two minutes.

Several ceremonies will be held tomorrow, with the largest of them taking place at the 911 memorial site in Lower Manhattan.

This includes reading the names of those who died on September 11 and those who died during the bombing of the World Trade Center in February 1993.

There will be six moments of silence to remember when the towers were hit, when they fell and for the attack on the Pentagon, and Shanksville in Pennsylvania.

The Tribute to Light will be illuminated throughout Monday night into Tuesday morning.

This commemorative public art installation was first unveiled six months after the attacks and then lit during each anniversary.

It features two beams of light that reach up to four miles high to resemble the Twin Towers.
