Since he completed his first round in this US Open, Djokovic is, as we know, guaranteed to become world number 1. If he wins the final, he will also move to number 1 in the Race and will have a good option to finish first at the end of the year. If he loses, he will remain second, 30 points behind Alcaraz.

If he wins, Medvedev, already a winner in New York in 2021, will therefore win his second US Open and his second Grand Slam overall. In the Open era, only Pat Rafter has won the US Open twice (1997-98) without winning another major title elsewhere.

If he wins, Medvedev will be the first player to beat the number 1 (Alcaraz) and the world number 2 (Djokovic) in the semi-final and final of the US Open. A feat only achieved elsewhere in the Grand Slam by Mats Wilander (Australian Open 1983, Roland-Garros 1985), Stefan Edberg (Wimbledon 1990) and Michael Stich (Wimbledon 1991).

This will be the third Grand Slam final on hard court between Djokovic and Medvedev (2 at the US Open, 1 at the Australian Open). A milestone only previously reached by:
Djokovic-Nadal, 5 hard court finals (3 at the US Open, 2 at the Australian Open) Agassi-Sampras, 3 hard court finals (3 at the US Open)

Djokovic, winner this year at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros, is in the running for the Little Slam: it would be the fourth of his career, after 2011, 2015 and 2021 (ahead of Federer who has 3). And it would be his first Roland-Garros/US Open double, a feat only achieved before him in the Open era by Rod Laver (1969) and Mats Wilander (1988).

If he wins, Novak Djokovic would become, at 36 years and 3 months, the oldest winner in the history of the US Open. He would take away the record of Ken Rosewall, winner in 1970 at 35 years and 10 months.
Note that 36 also corresponds to the number of Grand Slam finals that the Serbian now has (a record, men and women combined).
