The film Poor Things by the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos has won the prestigious Golden Lion at the film festival in Venice, Italy.
The film is about a young woman (Emma Stone) who commits suicide and is brought back to life by a scientist who replaces her brain with that of her unborn baby. The woman must then grow up again, but in the body of an adult. The audience follows her as she learns to move and talk.
She travels through nineteenth-century Europe and is also introduced to sex life in a very liberal way. The film contains many sex scenes. Stone, like many other actors, was not at the awards ceremony in Venice due to the actors’ strike in the United States.
The award for best actor went to Peter Sarsgaard for his role in Memory. Cailee Spaeny won the Best Actress award for her role in the film Priscilla. The Silver Lion for best director went to Matteo Garrone (Me Captain).
