7-Year-Old Discovers 2.95-Carat Golden-Brown Diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park

A 7-year-old found a 2.95-carat golden-brown diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, on his birthday. This was reported in a press release from the park.

The Sept. 1 diamond discovery “is the second-largest discovery by a park guest this year, second only to a 3.29-carat brown diamond discovered in March,” the release said.

It is noted that the child was in the park with his father and grandmother, and picked up the pea-sized gem from a path that runs along the northeast side of the search area.

“Diamond has a golden brown color and a sparkling luster. This is a complete crystal with no chips and a small crevice on one side created when the diamond was formed. This is certainly one of the most beautiful diamonds I have seen in recent years,” said a park spokesman.

Such finds are not uncommon, the press release said, with one or two visitors discovering diamonds in the park every day. In total, more than 75 thousand have been found here since diamonds were first discovered by a local farmer. Other precious stones are also found there, in particular amethysts and garnets.
