NEW YORK — New York City is a city that breathes art with its wide variety of places and events.
One of the emblematic places is the wonderful Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York that makes you fall in love with its architecture and the historical works in each of its collections. According to the institution, the collection of The Met Fifth Avenue displays works from more than 5,000 years of stories from all cultures and eras. Visitors can enjoy different exhibits and activities.
But that’s not all, there is very good news for those who want to learn more about the art of the museum and in Spanish.
This is because the museum provides free guided tours in Spanish throughout the year with the purchase of admission to the institution. However, entry is voluntary for New York state residents and students from New Jersey and Connecticut can pay whatever they want when they go to the museum. They have to show an identity document.
“Our greatest motivation is for people to have access to the art that is here. One comes from Latin American countries, I am from Chile, one did not have access to a museum. So imagine people who are here, of course they come and develops and grows, begins to reason with different cultures,” said Silvia Schechter, one of the museum’s Spanish guides.
“We all share an infinite passion not only for art, because we are volunteer guides, we do it because we love it deeply, we have an infinite passion for art, but above all we feel a need to communicate it, to tell this wonder that we cannot find, that we have studied it and we want to transmit it to the rest of the community,” added Diana Cardenas, also a museum guide.
People who visit the museum will find art from different parts of the world, including Latin America, which fills visitors with pride as they see the magic of their countries in New York. Each of the 19 guides in Spanish will show you these pieces with a unique passion and with data that only they share after a year of preparation.
“In some cases repeat visitors come tours and they say I already took it with you, so I’ll come tomorrow and take it with your colleague, because they are different. Each of the 19 of us are going to show you different tours and different perspectives,” Cardenas added.
