Arrested TNI Driver Causes Series of Accidents on MBZ Flyover

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The driver of the car with the initials GDW (29) was arrested by the police in connection with a series of accidents involving a number of vehicles on the Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) Flyover from Jakarta to Cikampek, Saturday (9/9/2023) morning.

GDW is a member of the TNI who drove the car against the flow on the toll road, causing an accident.

“Yes, that’s right (TNI members),” said Head of the Bekasi Metro Police Traffic Unit Gakkum Iptu Carmin when confirmed, Saturday (9/9/2023).

However, Carmin admitted that he did not know the origin of the TNI member unit

He said, currently, GDW has been handed over to Kodam Jaya along with the vehicle used at the time of the accident.

“The unit goes to Kodam Jaya, but I haven’t monitored the unit yet. Just because it goes to Kodam Jaya,” said Carmin.

Previously, a series of accidents involving a number of cars occurred on the MBZ Flyover Toll Road, Saturday at around 05.20 WIB

Head of PJR Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Police Commissioner Rikky Akmaja, revealed that the cause of the series of accidents was due to cars going against the flow, precisely in the Cibitung area.

“It’s true (there was a series of accidents caused by cars going against the flow). It has been handled and everyone has been evacuated,” said Rikky, Saturday.

However, Rikky did not explain the chronology of the series of accidents.

He said that this case was transferred to the Bekasi Metro Police Traffic Unit.

Information about this accident varies on social media. In the video on Twitter uploaded by the account @bukangitutapi, there are a number of cars pulled over.

Behind the row of cars suspected of being involved in the accident, there was a police and Jasa Marga vehicle.

In the uploaded video, one of the red cars suffered damage to the rear right side.

In addition, a number of car passengers involved in the accident got out of their vehicles. Some of them were standing and sitting on the edge of the toll road.
