Arab and international solidarity with Morocco after the devastating earthquake

Arab and Western countries offered their condolences to Morocco for the victims of the earthquake that occurred yesterday evening (Friday), which killed at least 632 people and injured 329 so far, and expressed their solidarity, while the European Union and the United Nations expressed their readiness to provide support.

Saudi Arabia

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia expressed its sincere condolences to the government and people of Morocco, as a result of the series of earthquakes that struck the country, and led to the death and injury of a number of people.

In Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, President of the UAE, said on his account on the “X” website: “I offer my condolences to my brother, King Mohammed VI, and the Moroccan people for the victims of the earthquake. We are saddened by this incident, and we stand by our brothers in brotherly Morocco and stand in solidarity with them in these difficult times. May God protect Morocco from all evil.”

The President of the UAE also directed the operation of an air bridge to transport urgent relief aid to those affected by the earthquake and to provide various forms of support. Qatar

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, offered his condolences to the victims of the earthquake that struck several Moroccan regions and cities, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

In Amman, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry expressed its “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco for the victims of the earthquake that occurred yesterday evening (Friday), resulting in a large number of victims and injuries.”

League of Arab States

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said: “My sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of the earthquake that struck Morocco. Our hearts are with our family and brothers there, and I pray to God to be kind to this dear Arab country and its authentic people, and to quickly overcome this crisis.

International solidarity

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his condolences to the Moroccan people for the victims of the earthquake, stressing that Turkey stands by the Kingdom of Morocco by all possible means.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathy for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco – via the “X” platform – saying that he was “very sad about the loss of lives as a result of the earthquake in Morocco.”

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) extended its condolences to Morocco, stressing its solidarity with the Kingdom to confront the damage of the earthquake, especially the restoration of damaged monuments in some historical cities.

The most violent earthquake in decades

An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale struck southwest of Marrakesh, in the provinces and prefectures of Al Haouz, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant, according to what the Moroccan Ministry of Interior reported.
