The Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN) has officially confirmed that the remains discovered in the locality of Plauru in Tulcea county, near the bombed Ukrainian ports along the Romanian bank of the Danube, are of Russian origin and come from a drone that entered Romanian territory .
In a first press release, the Ministry of National Defense revealed that General Daniel Petrescu, Chief of the Defense Staff, had a telephone conversation with General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe.
The discussion between the two was about “the discovery of drone elements in the area of the Romanian town of Plauru”.

MApN official communication about the Russian drones that fell in Romania
On Saturday, MApN spoke about the “incident regarding drone elements that arrived on Romanian territory”.
On Tuesday evening, the Romanian military discovered in Tulcea county fragments of a piece of equipment that can be associated with a drone.
Later, the Minister of Defense, Angel Tîlvăr, went to the scene of the incident to supervise the search operations. Samples have been collected and MApN officials have announced that they will be analyzed. All to identify the origin, capacity and type of equipment.
For his part, President Klaus Iohannis stated that, “if it is confirmed that these elements belong to a Russian drone”. He also said that the situation is “inadmissible” and represents a serious violation of Romania’s sovereignty.

Discussions between the Romanian and Ukrainian defense chiefs
On September 8, the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, had a telephone conversation with the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
The discussion focused on the evolution of the situation as a result of the intensification of attacks by the Russian Federation on the infrastructure of the Danube ports in Ukraine. Also, the two military officials addressed the incident related to the drone fragments discovered on Romanian territory, MApN reported in a PRESS.
General Daniel Petrescu firmly expressed Romania’s condemnation of the war of aggression carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. As well as against unjustified and illegal attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian population. He also reiterated Romania’s commitment to provide complex support to Ukraine, depending on the needs.
In this perspective, the head of Defense informed that additional measures have been taken to strengthen the monitoring and securing capabilities of the airspace at Romania’s borders.
