Esther is one of the guests during the final of De grote Radiocollecte for KWF. She was already involved as a collector with KWF before she was diagnosed with cancer herself. “It is a very ugly story with a happy ending,” says Esther. She remains positive, but that doesn’t always work. “There are moments when it is very difficult and I can react very emotionally.”
Reading mother
Esther has been cleared, but she remains vigilant. “I was hoping that the doctor would say that everything is fine with me, everything is okay. Five years have passed, so there is less risk of the cancer coming back, but I have a type of cancer for which I am not in the risk group, so I have an increased chance of getting cancer again.” Now that she can talk properly again, she wants to do that a lot more. “I was a reading mother to my children at primary school and I wanted to read to them again; I have done that.”
