VIENNA, 8th September, 2018 (WAM) – Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), stressed the importance of close cooperation between global law enforcement agencies, stressing the need to exchange data and enhance coordination to raise the effectiveness and efficiency of police cooperation at the international level.
Major General Al-Raisi also stressed the importance of the role of women in police work, as diversity in police work is extremely important, as it ensures a methodology that takes into account a gender perspective in all police jobs.
In a speech on the occasion of the celebration of the first International Day of Police Cooperation at the former headquarters of the Vienna Police Directorate, where Interpol was founded on September 7, 1923, he pointed out that Emirati women have a central role in enhancing and maintaining the security of the United Arab Emirates, as their representation in police work began in 1960. When Tuffaha Salem Khamis joined the Dubai Police, she became the first female police officer, and since then, thousands of Emirati women have joined the ranks of the Emirati police throughout the country.
During the event, Major General Al-Raisi stressed the need to raise the level of cooperation between international law enforcement agencies, and said: “Over the past century, we have witnessed the strength of cross-border cooperation and information exchange. Interpol has enabled police officers around the world to work together and keep pace with the latest growing criminal trends, and as we look forward Looking forward, we must continue to grow and adapt to meet the criminal challenges of the 21st century.”
The President of Interpol concluded his speech by saying: “The United Nations’ adoption of an International Day for Police Cooperation is a clear appreciation of the importance of the work carried out by Interpol in supporting security worldwide,” stressing the need to open channels of dialogue, cooperation and exchange of information to achieve this goal.
The launch of the International Day of Police Cooperation by the United Nations General Assembly coincides with the founding of Interpol 100 years ago.
