A medical team in the Najran region, southwestern Saudi Arabia, through an urgent surgical intervention, saved the life of a nine-month-old pregnant patient whose heart stopped for 3 minutes.
The Ministry of Health in Najran said that the surgery lasted for two hours, during which the baby was born and was successful.
The Ministry stated that the cardiac anesthesia team at the Prince Sultan Heart Center and the Maternity and Children Hospital received a patient suffering from a heart muscle disorder, which was revealed by a clinical examination, which showed a severe tachycardia, which led to its stopping.
She added that the medical team decided urgently to intervene with electric shocks and save her life at the last moments, while continuing to give her life-supporting medicines.
And she stated that after the health condition stabilized, she was transferred to the operations department, and a safe cesarean section was performed, through which she delivered her healthy baby.
The medical team confirmed that the patient received treatment and medical follow-up in the inpatient department until she and her newborn were safely discharged from the hospital.
The team pointed out that cardiomyopathy during pregnancy is one of the diseases that may lead to sudden cardiac arrest, in which the use of the time factor is of great importance to save the life of the mother and fetus.
