New York: After thirteen years, Indian player Rohan Bopanna returned to the US. Open men’s doubles title fight. The alliance consisting of Bopanna and Australia’s Matthew Ebden entered the final. In the semi-finals, French players who have won five Grand Slams, Nicolas Mahut-Pierre Herbert, advanced by defeating them (7-6, 6-2).
Bopanna also holds the record of being the oldest player to reach a Grand Slam final in the Open era. The age of the Indian star is 43 years and six months. The record was surpassed by Canada’s Daniel Nestor, who reached the final at the age of 43 years and four months.
Bopanna had previously played in the final in 2010. Pakistan’s partnership with Aizam Qureshi lost to South Africa’s Wesley Moody and Belgium’s Dick Nomann in the final.
The 43-year-old Rohan is aiming for his second Grand Slam title. In 2017, she won the French Open mixed doubles title with Gabriela Dabrowski. In the women’s category, Madison Keys of the United States defeated ninth seed Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic. (6-1, 6-4). Sabalenka beat China’s Zheng Quenwen (6-1, 6-4). Kokogaff and Jessica Pegula were eliminated in women’s doubles. The third-seeded American pair was upset by Su Wei of Chinese Taipei and Wang Xinyu of China (7-6, 3-6, 6-4).
