The world of live music has closed 2022 with “record figures”. This Thursday the Enderrock Group and the Professional Association of Representatives, Promoters and Managers of Catalonia (ARC) have presented ‘The Music Yearbook’ with “historic” results in terms of the Catalan live industry. This document highlights the number of spectators at concerts and live music festivals in Catalonia, which in 2022 has risen to 15 million people. This increase in the volume of viewers has also been closely related to economic growth, for which the turnover of the direct music sector in Catalonia has increased by 60%.
Now, you have to have this «boom» that has been experienced in the last year is completely conditioned by the end of the covid pandemic that closed Catalonia at his home two years ago. That is why from the sector they do not believe that the figures that they have registered in 2022 are the same that will be experienced each year. According to the editorial director of the Enderrock Group, Lluís Gendrauit can be considered that last year was “the best in history”: “An exceptional year that registers figures well above the average that are attributed: on the one hand, due to the end of the covid, as well as the coincidence of the electoral year”.

This yearbook also highlights the increase in the presence of women on stage with groups such as Alergías al Pollen, Las que FaltaBand or Maruja Limón. In fact, the presence of women in the main festivals of Catalonia stands at 45%, with 34% formations led by female soloists and 11% mixed groups. A reality, but one that is not seen so much in events with a lower budget or with a smaller format.
Less Catalan than ever
‘El Anuario de la Música’ also refers to the presence of Catalan on the big billboards in Catalonia. Despite the record numbers of last year, the posters have programmed fewer Catalan artists than ever, with only 26%, of which only 17% acted in this language. This is a reality that the Platform for Language has already denounced, who pointed out that music in Catalan does not even make up 20% of the programming of the three festivals most subsidized by the Generalitat: the Cross festivalhe festival life and the Ferrada gate festival.
