A new study by researchers at Florida Atlantic University has discovered a source of infections that almost everyone carries with them.
The research group tested smart watches and fitness bracelets for the presence of potentially dangerous types of staphylococci, enterobacteria (such as Escherichia coli) and pseudomonads (Pseudomonas). It was found that 95% of the smartwatch straps tested were contaminated with bacteria capable of causing diseases such as pneumonia and salmonellosis, reports gismeteo.ro
Significant differences were also seen in the types of wristbands used: rubber and plastic ones had the most bacteria. This is because porous and static surfaces tend to attract and harbor microorganisms. In contrast, metal bracelets (especially gold and silver) were virtually free of bacteria.
The study found that fitness band owners tend to frequently neglect sanitizing the bands, even if they wear them all day (and night). Those who do it are really responsible!
This study emphasizes the importance of maintaining the hygiene of personal items that we wear on the wrist, to prevent potential infections and diseases.
