Russian President Putin to Skip G20 Summit Amid Arrest Warrant Concerns

Asked whether Putin will address the summit via video conference, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “No, there are no plans.”

“All work” will be led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he added.

Lavrov will be the head of the Russian delegation at the G20 summit.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also represented Russia at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg in August. Since the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin, South Africa, as a member of the court, would have to detain the Russian dictator if he decides to attend the summit in person.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will also not attend the G20 summit in India.
