The Immigration Crisis in New York City: Mayor Eric Adams Warns of the Destruction and Urges for Federal Support

The arrival of thousands of immigrants each week to the Big Apple and the lack of federal support could destroy New York City, Mayor Eric Adams said yesterday during an event.

Adams participated in a Townhall where he pointed out that he does not see an end to the immigration problem.

“Never in my life have I had a problem that I didn’t see an end to. But I don’t see an end to this, ”she said.

“ This situation will destroy the City of New York. We receive 10,000 immigrants every month,” he added.

He said that every week 10,000 immigrants arrive, not only from Latin America but also from Europe, Asia and Africa.

“Before we received from Venezuela, now from Ecuador, we have Russians crossing through Mexico, people from West Africa, we have people from all over the world entering through the southern border.”

He added that the expense of receiving and sheltering them will significantly impact other City programs.

“Every community in the City will be impacted. We have a deficit of 12,000 million dollars that we are going to have to cut services in the city. Everyone will be impacted,” she noted.

110,000 immigrants have arrived in New York City in the last year, 60,000 of whom are in the city’s shelter system.

New immigrant shelter opens in Long Island City

Authorities have opened a new immigrant shelter on Austell Place in Long Island City.

The site was a vacant office building before being used as a shelter.

It will have an initial capacity for 330 people and will be occupied by male immigrants traveling alone.

It is expected that in the medium term it can accommodate up to 1,000 people.

Mayor Eric Adams insisted on the need for federal support to deal with the crisis.

“We need additional support to keep up. said Mayor Adams. “As we have said month after month, only with more state and federal support and a policy change in Washington will we solve the crisis.”
