Tunisia’s Central Bank Keeps Key Interest Rates Unchanged at 8%

Tunisia’s central bank said it kept key interest rates unchanged at 8 percent on Thursday.

In December, the central bank raised its main interest rate by 75 basis points to 8 percent to counter rising inflation, which was the third rate hike in the past year.

Annual inflation rose to 9.3 percent in August from 9.1 percent in July.

The bank said in a statement that the current account deficit decreased to 2.814 billion dinars ($900.25 million), equivalent to 1.8 percent of GDP at the end of July 2023, compared to 5.4 percent a year earlier, supported by the increase in tourism revenues and remittances from Tunisians abroad.
