The former leader of the extreme right group Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, was sentenced, this Tuesday, by a federal judge, to a prison sentence of 22 years for his role in planning the invasion of the Capitol, in the United States.
Tarrio was one of four Proud Boys found guilty of seditious conspiracy in May. According to NBC, his sentence is the longest so far in the case, surpassing the 18 years given to Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, who was also convicted of seditious conspiracy.
According to prosecutors, Tarrio helped direct the January 6, 2020 raid from the city of Baltimore since, at the time of the raid, the man was not in Washington. A judge had ordered him to leave the city for having set fire to a flag of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
Last week, Joe Biggs was sentenced to 17 years, Zachary Rehl to 15 years, and Ethan Nordean to 18 years.
Dominic Pezzola, the fifth defendant in the seditious conspiracy trial, was found not guilty of the main charge but found guilty of other charges.
So he was sentenced to 10 years. It should be remembered that on January 6, 2021, about 10 thousand people, mostly Trump supporters, traveled to the Capitol.
About 2,500 stormed the building and hundreds clashed with security forces. More than 770 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the riots.
More than 250 of them pleaded guilty, mostly to offences, and more than 140 of them were sentenced.
