The Senate has set itself the goal of making teacher training more attractive and removing barriers to entry. It is particularly important to increase the attractiveness of the course for teaching at primary schools: On September 7th, an expert commission made up of representatives from universities, administrations and school practice will meet for the first time to discuss the current structure of primary school teaching and will develop suggestions for improvement. In this context, the Commission will advise, for example, on how studying at two different universities can be made easier and how the relationship between theory and practice can be improved in general.

In addition to representatives of the Berlin universities that train teachers, the primary school association and the Berlin primary school management association, there will also be external advisors, Prof. Dr. Silvia-Iris Beutel (Professor for School Pedagogy and General Didactics at the Technical University of Dortmund), Prof. Dr. Rolf Werning (Professor for Inclusive School Development at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover) and Prof. Oliver Günther, Ph.D. (President of the University of Potsdam).
The schedule is very ambitious, and the first results should be available in spring 2024.
