The US actress Angela Bassett (65) and the American comedian legend Mel Brooks (97) have to wait longer to receive their honorary Oscar. The ongoing strike by actors and screenwriters in the United States had previously led to the Emmy Gala being postponed. The important television awards – originally scheduled for September – will not be awarded until January 15, 2024.
In June, this year’s honorary Oscar recipients were announced. In addition to Bassett (“Tina – What’s Love Got To Do With It?”) and Brooks (“The Wild Wild West”), the film editor Carol Littleton (81, “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial”) is also honored with the “Honorary Award”. Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter is set to receive the Jean Hersholt Award for her work in independent film.
There is no competition for the honorary Oscars, but the academy selects people who have made a special contribution to film and society. The nominations for the 96th Oscars are set to be announced on January 23. The trophy gala is scheduled for March 10, 2024 in Los Angeles.
