“The success of this summit is the accession of Greece to the Three Seas Initiative. Greece was accepted as a full member of the European Union in the Three Seas Initiative, but the success is also the accession of Moldova and Ukraine as associate partners – two countries on the way to EU membership,” said President Duda during the press conference.
According to him, “this Three Seas Summit is so important because the Three Seas Initiative has shown its worth, especially recently. We have seen how important all the infrastructure projects that we have already undertaken under the Three Seas Initiative or those that we plan to implement, as well as those that are currently being implemented,” explained Duda.
The “Three Seas” initiative also includes Ukraine
According to Radev, Bulgaria should use international initiatives and instruments much more effectively
The Polish president emphasized that “the need for supplies to Ukraine and the export of products from Ukraine – all this for Ukraine to function as normally as possible in an extremely difficult situation – showed how important infrastructure links in Central Europe are and how vital cooperation is between our countries.”
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky joined the meeting via video link.
“The participation of President Zelensky in this summit is very important, because today Ukraine becomes an associate country of the Three Seas Initiative, which will allow it to join all the instruments of the Initiative, as well as get access to investments for projects for strategic interconnections. Ukraine will also get closer to the EU and will be able to better prepare for its recovery and recovery,” Iohannis said at the summit’s opening.
John Kerry, the US president’s special climate envoy, is also participating in this year’s summit. Before the start of the summit, the Romanian president’s office announced that he would emphasize the importance of the initiative, given Russia’s “brutal and illegal aggression” against Ukraine over the past year and a half.
During the meeting, the President of Moldova, Maya Sandu, met with the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu. Sandu expressed that Moldova, which borders Ukraine, is “ready to contribute to the connectivity and unity of Europe”.
The two-day summit includes leaders from 12 countries from the European Union (EU), located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas, as well as representatives of partner countries. The aim is to strengthen cooperation in the fields of transport, energy and digital technologies.
The Three Seas Initiative includes Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Latvia and Lithuania.
This year the Bulgarian delegation is led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Maria Gabriel, and not by President Rumen Radev, as was the case in previous years,
