Three Seas Initiative: Bulgaria’s Delegation for the 2023 Summit in Bucharest

Then Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov went to Vilnius. And now the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel will head the Bulgarian delegation for the eighth summit of the “Three Seas” initiative in Bucharest, which will be held on September 6-7, 2023.

In September in Bucharest, the leaders of the 12 countries of the “Three Seas” will discuss additional opportunities to stimulate economic development, strengthen cooperation, strengthen security in the region, improve regional connectivity and mobilize the necessary investments for important infrastructure projects for the region , reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Within the framework of the summit, a declaration reflecting the common goals and priority topics for the countries participating in the initiative will be adopted.

“Three Seas” is an organization of 12 countries in the EU, which aims to create a regional dialogue between the countries from the Baltic to the Adriatic and the Black Sea in Central and Eastern Europe. Traditionally, the meetings on the initiative are in the format of heads of state. And since he became president, Rumen Radev has been at the head of the Bulgarian delegation.

In July 2021, on his initiative, Bulgaria hosted the “Three Seas”. And the organization of our household caused a clash in 2020 between the president and the then prime minister Boyko Borisov. He and the leader of GERB argued for months about who, if and how interfered with the Bulgarian household. Radev then accused the government of sabotaging him. And Borisov replied that his office had done everything it needed to, including deciding that Bulgaria would contribute 20 million euros to the investment fund for the initiative.

The presidents of Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Slovenia, as well as the prime minister of Croatia, took part in the meeting organized by Radev. The guest was the president of Greece, and the president of the USA – Joe Biden, sent a video greeting.
