The hard-to-say Denuvo anti-theft DRM technology was recently finally removed in Doom Eternal’s 6.66 Rev 2.2 update.
The official did not explain much (web link), but it has been 3 years since its launch in 2020, and “Doom: Eternal” has finally announced its removal, which should be regarded as a “gift” for players who finally waited.
The difficulty of cracking Denuvo has always been an important weapon to delay piracy. However, it has been criticized by players for a long time due to concerns such as consuming computer performance and causing bugs.
Although Denuvo officials have complained many times that their anti-theft DRM technology will not affect game performance, there have been actual tests by players, showing the possibility of better performance after removal.
In fact, in addition to “Doom: Eternal”, many games continue to remove Denuvo this year, such as “Evil Castle 8”, “Valkyrie Elysium”, “TRIANGLE STRATEGY”; among them, “Magic” Cursed Lands was removed 6 months after its release. The recently launched “Starfield” and “Tekken 8” which will be launched in 2024 are directly excluded.
