A little over a month after the departure of the former prefect of Seine-et-Marne, here is the new one. Pierre Ory, 60, succeeds Lionel Beffre. The latter was appointed on August 3 to the Ministry of Overseas where he became director of the minister’s cabinet.
The appointment of the brand new prefect Pierre Ory has not yet been officially published in the Official Journal but was recorded at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. Born in Bitche in Moselle, Pierre Ory graduated from Sciences-po Paris (Public Service section) in 1985. He also holds a master’s degree in business law. Appointed prefect of Maine-et-Loire on November 23, he had previously exercised these same prefectural functions in the Vosges in 2018.
The man climbed the ladder one by one. He was appointed sub-prefect in 2009 and prefect in 2016. He held his first position as prefect in the Gers from June 2015, shortly before reaching the rank of prefect.
The senior civil servant is a good connoisseur of the functioning of local authorities since he was director general of the services of the departmental council of the Somme (in 2003, for four years) or of the Franche-Comté region (from 2000 to 2003). Pierre Ory is also Knight of the Legion of Honor and Knight of the National Order of Merit.
The day he left his post as prefect of Seine-et-Marne, Lionel Beffre said that he “would be careful not to give advice” to his successor. “You have to show humility,” he was content to let go while adding that the department was “extremely endearing”.
Since the departure of the prefect Beffre in August, it is Benoît Kaplan, delegate prefect for equal opportunities for Seine-et-Marne, who has been acting. A post of delegate prefect that he has held since last November.
