At least 16 people were killed in a Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warns that the death toll will rise.

According to Zelensky, a rocket hit a market square, which was busy at the time. A child is also said to be among the dead.

In addition, at least 31 were injured in the attack on Kostiantynivka. The industrial city is located in the north of the Donetsk region and near the front line.

In a first reaction, Zelensky says that people have been killed “who have done nothing wrong”. The president stressed that “Russian evil must be defeated as soon as possible”.

Russia has carried out several rocket attacks in recent months that have killed civilians. At least 23 people were killed in several rocket attacks in April. Attacks in June, July and August again killed several dozen civilians.
