Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin emphasized that his party had never brought PBNU to its own interests 2024 presidential election.
Cak Imin made this statement in response to PBNU general chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf who asked the presidential or cawapres candidates not to profiteer from NU ahead of the 2024 political year. However, in response to this, Cak Imin emphasized that he had been NU since birth.
“I’ve never brought that up. I’ve never carried PBNU around. But from birth until now people know I’m NU,” said Cak Imin during a visit to the NasDem Party DPP, Wednesday (6/9).
Cak Imin is indeed part of the big family of the founders of Nahdlatul Ulama. He also has a family relationship, although not close, with the fourth Indonesian President, Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur.
Cak Imin is the great-grandson of the founder of NU as well as the Denanyar Islamic boarding school, Jombang, East Java, KH Bisri Syansuri.
Cak Imin and Gus Dur’s family relationship is connected through his mother, Nyai Hj Muhassonah. Mrs. Cak Imin is the daughter of Nyai Hj Mu’asomah who is the sister of Mrs. Gus Dur, Nyai Hj Sholihah. Both are daughters of KH Bisri Syansuri.
Muhassonah married KH M Iskandar, who was none other than Cak Imin’s father. In this case, KH Bisri Syansuri was Gus Dur’s grandfather and Cak Imin’s great-grandfather.
Meanwhile, Gus Yahya previously requested that not a single presidential or vice presidential candidate speak on behalf of NU in the 2024 presidential election. He at the same time emphasized that PBNU was not related to any presidential-vice presidential pair.
“No candidate on behalf of NU. If there is a candidate, it is in the name of credibility, in the name of individual behavior. Not in the name of NU,” he said at the PBNU office, Tuesday (5/9).
Open voices about legal cases to the name of the changing coalition
Meanwhile, Cak Imin said that the coalition supporting Anies Baswedan in the 2024 presidential election might still be called the Change Coalition. He said there were still discussions about the name of the coalition. However, many suggestions to maintain the name.
“We are continuing to discuss the name of the coalition, but this will be a proposal that is quite dominant, namely the name of the Change Coalition,” said Cak Imin at the PB PMII Office.
Cak Imin said that PKB had no problem with changing the name of the coalition. According to him, the changes that will be carried out will be in accordance with the philosophy of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
He said the changes were made by paying attention to the processes that have been running. Change will not take away the things that have gone well.
“Muhafadhotu ala qodimis sholih wal akhdzu bil jadidil ashlah. That’s what we call change,” he said.
He added, “Change is to achieve better in the future preserving and continuing the good, which is obtained today. That change, change NU version.”
Previously, PKB joined forces with the NasDem Party to support Anies Baswedan as the presidential candidate. The coalition also agreed to nominate Cak Imin as a candidate for vice president.
Before PKB joined, NasDem had built a Change Coalition with Democrats and PKS. Democrats left the Coalition for Change after the Anies-Cak Imin declaration. Democrats claim the change coalition was the idea of the party made by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).
In the same place, Cak Imin was reluctant to regard his examination at the KPK as a politicization of law. He is willing to attend the KPK summons tomorrow. He focused on giving information to the KPK rather than seeing it as a politicization.
“I don’t participate in the interpretation,” said Cak Imin.
Cak Imin confirmed that he would attend the KPK summons. However, he admitted that he did not know when the examination would be held. He emphasized that he would follow the ongoing legal process. He promised to answer all KPK questions.
“I will come tomorrow and we will see. I am ready to provide any information the KPK requests,” he said.
Previously, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) again held an investigation into cases of alleged corruption in the TKI protection system at the Ministry of Manpower. The case began in 2012 when Cak Imin was still the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration.
The KPK will examine Cak Imin tomorrow, Thursday (7/9). The examination aroused suspicion from the NasDem Party because it was close to the time of the declaration of the Anies Baswedan-Cak Imin pair.
