Ole Selnæs Returns to Rosenborg: Contract Extension and Ambitions for the Club

The midfielder has signed a contract that extends to the 2027 season and thus returns to the club he left after the 2015 season.

– It feels very special to put on the Rosenborg suit again. It feels good and very special, says Ole Selnæs to RBK.no.

This is the biggest factor in the return home

The Trondhjemmeren left Rosenborg for French side Saint Etienne in January 2016, before moving on to Chinese club football. For the past year, Selnæs has played for Swiss side Zurich, where his contract expired this summer. As a result, the 29-year-old was without a contract and had a number of offers this summer. The choice finally fell on Rosenborg and Trondheim.

– There are many factors to that. One is family, but an important factor is that I want to help take Rosenborg back to the top. That is clearly the most important factor for me. Because I have always followed Rosenborg closely my whole life, including the last few years. There is no one who supports Rosenborg who is satisfied with what has happened in recent years and in any case not me, says Selnæs and continues:

– I have a feeling and a strong desire to help Rosenborg back where they belong. It is without a doubt at the top with Rosenborg as by far the biggest club in Norway. We have to show that again and that is the main reason why I am back, says Selnæs.

Can debut against Glimt

Selnæs has 134 games for Rosenborg after his debut against Lillestrøm as a 17-year-old in 2012, a debut season in which he played 34 games, including in the Europa League group stage. The midfielder won “The Double” and group stage in the Europa League in the autumn of 2015, before group stage opponents Saint Etienne brought him to the south of France.

Now the ring is over and Selnæs can make their re-debut at home in Lerkendal against Bodø/Glimt on Sunday 17 September.

– It is not me who decides whether I get to play there. It also depends on how I feel in training, but I can imagine now that I can play one in that game. But you have to make reservations about how you feel in training, how it goes, how you deliver and what the trainers say. But as of today, I don’t see why I shouldn’t be in the assessment anyway, says Selnæs.

First practice Monday

Monday is the first joint training session with his new teammates at Lerkendal. Then the work starts towards a common goal of taking Rosenborg back to the top.

– Rosenborg is clearly the biggest club. It will never be the case in my mind that you should be satisfied with fourth places. We always aim for the top. We have to work hard to make it happen and I have faith. That is why I am here, says Selnæs.
