Shortcomings in new regional trains

Air conditioning fails, toilets are closed – there was sometimes a tense situation in regional trains. The Odeg railway company is experiencing a disaster with new trains and cannot replace all the failures at the weekend.

Due to breakdowns in train traffic and drastic cuts on numerous routes, passengers in Brandenburg will have to be prepared for massive restrictions in the future. The Odeg railway company pulled eight new trains on three routes (RB51, RB37 and RB33) due to faults in air conditioning systems. According to Odeg, the train manufacturer Alstom should be able to find out about the defects on Monday.

Despite some reactivated replacement trains, the range of trains on the three affected routes remains severely thinned out at the weekend or is completely canceled. There should also be buses. In addition, Odeg reported on Friday that train journeys on another route (RB 64) were canceled until Sunday due to short-term sick leave among staff.

Now also defective toilet facilities in RE8

Defective toilet facilities also led to dissatisfaction among passengers on an Odeg train this week. On the route from Wismar to BER Berlin Brandenburg Airport (RE8 North), all three toilet facilities failed last Monday. “That’s not good and we very much regret it,” said Odeg spokeswoman Dietmute Graf on Friday. Hoses were leaking in the toilets and the systems were also full. That’s why they were closed.

Manufacturer Alstom wants to clarify on Monday

The eight diesel railcars from the manufacturer Alstom, which have been in operation for around eight weeks and were completely stopped on Thursday due to technical defects, remain a major construction site. The RB37 line (Berlin-Wannsee – Beelitz Stadt) will therefore be canceled until at least July 23, as the company published on its website. Passengers should be able to use replacement buses. Trains are to roll again on other routes.

The manufacturer Alstom searches for the causes of the errors and carries out tests. On Monday, Odeg expects information from Alstom about the problems and how they can be solved, said Odeg Managing Director Lars Gehrke.

Potsdam Ministry of Transport and VBB in talks with Odeg

The Ministry of Transport in Brandenburg announced that there had been talks with representatives of Odeg and the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association. “Alstom must immediately present an action plan to rectify the problems as quickly as possible.”

In a statement, the Pro Bahn transport association advocated reversing the purchase of diesel railcars and using environmentally friendly battery trains instead. Odeg Managing Director Gehrke only said: “We have taken note of that.”
