The actress who played Ginny Weasley in ‘Harry Potter’ says her lack of presence in the saga caused her “anxiety and frustration”

‘Harry Potter’ actress Bonnie Wright may not be remembered by the general public, but many fans of the saga wonder, like her, why her presence in the saga was so limited. On the latest episode of the ‘Inside of You’ podcast, hosted by Michael Rosenbaum for Insider, she admitted that he also found his character’s lack of screen time in the Warner Bros. film franchise “a bit disappointing.”

Wright played Ginny Weasley in all eight ‘Harry Potter’ films, and was just 9 years old when she filmed ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’. She then she little knew that her character would be very minor despite becoming Harry Potter’s wife in the books.

“I definitely feel like I had anxiety about acting and doing my best to build my character, for example. Like thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, am I going to do justice to this character that people love?’ So that was always difficult, especially when, inevitably, many of the multi-lead scenes were cut in the transition from book to film. So you really didn’t have much else to work with.”

Wright never complained to the producers that Ginny’s role had been reduced by porting the book to the screen, he simply assumed that the films did not have the ability to be faithful to all the details of several rather lengthy books.

“Sometimes that was a bit disappointing because there were parts of the character that just couldn’t come to fruition because there weren’t any scenes to do it. There wasn’t room for a lot of changes in those scripts, I guess that made me feel a little anxious or just frustrated.”

Ginny Weasley surely has a lot more development in Max’s upcoming television adaptation of the ‘Harry Potter’ novels, where each season will cover an entire book in detail, something that would have calmed Wright’s concern, because it had more to do with the time limitation in the movies than because of his work.

“There were a million executives reviewing all the scripts. I think maybe what I took too seriously, which I never do anymore, is that I felt like maybe my anxiety had to do with ‘Oh, they’re going to see me misplaying this character,’ only to then realize that I didn’t actually get a chance to do that. So it wasn’t exactly my fault. When fans share that disappointment and say, ‘We know it wasn’t your fault. We just wanted to see you more,’ and that’s the same with all the characters. I wish they could be five-hour movies.”
