Municipality Threatens Removal of Dogs from Controversial Breeder

The municipality of Eersel threatens to remove the eight dogs discovered last week from a controversial breeder. If it turns out that the dogs on the Grote Aardweg are being kept commercially, he will be given two weeks to dispose of the dogs himself. If he does not do so, he will receive a penalty of 2500 euros per week. If the animals are still with the breeder after two weeks, the municipality will remove the dogs itself, says a spokesperson.

The Council of State has determined that dog breeding is in conflict with the zoning plan and that the breeder must move his company. The municipality then imposed a penalty of 2500 euros per week on him, with a maximum of ten weeks.

The man had already been in violation for eight weeks when the NVWA supervisor intervened in May. He took all the dogs away because they would be in bad shape. The total of the penalty payments had already risen to 20,000 euros.

After the intervention of the NVWA, the breeder was no longer allowed to keep dogs for the time being. But boas from the municipality discovered eight dogs again last Monday. The owner claims he keeps these dogs private and not for business. If he keeps the eight dogs, the municipality can impose a penalty payment on him two more times before the animals are removed.
