Fine and Dry Weather in Southern and Eastern Norway Continues, with Fog and Clouds Expected

It is dry and fine in Southern Norway and Eastern Norway, and it will continue, says meteorologist on duty, Tone Christin Thaule, at the Meteorological Institute.

Fog and clouds are expected over Eastern Norway tomorrow and Thursday.

– It can spoil the nice weather a little, but it is mainly about the morning.

«Sandwich»

The reason for the fine days in eastern Norway and in southern Norway is due to high pressure that is building up, explains the meteorologist.

And the high pressure is currently well protected. Satellite images show that a large high pressure area is pushing up towards Scandinavia between two low pressure areas. In professional terms, the high pressure is called omega blocking, says the Swedish state meteorologist Charlotta Eriksson The evening paper.

The omega system, which can resemble the Greek letter Ω, causes high pressure to push in between low pressure off Spain and in the eastern Mediterranean. The Swedish newspaper also believes that the high pressure can resemble two slices of bread with toppings in between.

However, not everyone in Norway will enjoy the sandwich.

– Looking ahead

On Tuesday there was rain in Western Norway, but this is about to subside, says Thaule.

– The sun is about to peek out, and the weather will improve.

In contrast, in Trøndelag and Nordlandet there have been heavy rain showers on Tuesday which will continue throughout the day.

– In Eastern Finnmark and Finnmarksvidda there has been little rainfall and dry weather. There are good opportunities for periods of sunshine, says the meteorologist.

Moving east

During tomorrow, it will continue with rain showers with some scattered periods of sun in the north, and on Thursday there will be dry weather, according to Thaule.

– The high pressure will move a little further east closer to the weekend. It will drop to a low pressure from the west.

Along the coast in the north, showers will continue closer to the weekend.

– But it will mostly not be that dense with showers inland.

The meteorologist says it is difficult to know where the shower will land on Saturday, but both the coastal areas in the north and in Western Norway can expect some rain.
