More than 3,800 kindergarten and primary students returned to school this Monday September 4, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines). To ensure that the start of the 2023 school year takes place in the best conditions for 21 public schools and 151 City classes, everything was prepared in advance.
“We approached this return to school calmly. We have all our staff of City agents: animators, Atsem, school guards, administration. All our teachers and all our directors are present. We had 7 changes of directors, for retirement, to take another direction or to become a teacher again. We have 1 teacher per class and the last position to be filled has been filled, as the national education inspector assured me. »

Regarding the classes, the municipality has almost the same number of classes. “We have 2 less because we had a slight reduction in staff with the decline in birth rate. »
Bonnenfant School
To properly prepare the little Saint-Germanois to return to their classroom, several works have been carried out in recent months.
Main site, the Bonnenfant school complex, should be delivered by January 2024. The work mainly concerns the creation of new dining areasa new multi-purpose room and the renovation of the kindergarten and playground are continuing.
As a reminder, the objective is to form a Cité de l’Enfance with the arrival of a crèche with 22 cradles. The kindergartens are still in premises on the site under construction. Elementary school children, relocated to the Giraud-Teulon square, should return to the premises during the year if all goes well…
“Prices are moving all the time, companies are defaulting and material delivery can have 1, 2 or 6 months delay “, cautiously anticipates the deputy mayor.
Giraud-Teulon and Charles-Bouvard schools
Another major project, the school group Giraud-Teulon has a new floor covering, as well as the installation of new furniture in the dormitory and the two refectories. Part of the door frames will also be replaced and the paint refurbished. “The elementary classrooms have all been repainted,” says Sylvie Habert-Dupuis.

On the Charles-Bouvard school side, seven classrooms benefited from a repainting. The revegetation of the kindergarten courtyard, still in progress, should be completed during the year. “We removed some of the tar to allow the water to penetrate the ground well. There are still some plantings of plants that could not be done during the summer. »
The elected representative details other more minor works: “At Marie-Curie, we redid the paint in the refectory, ground markings in the nursery yard in Jean-Moulin and a resumption of course coating in several schools. »
The secondary
Even if the colleges, managed by the Department and the high schools, by the Region, are not in the field of competence of the municipality, the secondary and the university remain very important for the City.
“We have nearly 22,000 students aged 3 to 21 and over. We want to increase the number of students in the city to prepare for the future so we put things in place so that they feel good in the city in which they come to study on the issue of housing, transport, health, culture and sport,” concludes Sylvie Habert-Dupuis.
