TrendForce has just published the results of its research on global smartphone sales for the second half of 2023, where it is stated that global smartphone sales in this period are the lowest figures in the last 10 years for both the individual quarter and the first half of this year combined.
In detail, TrendForce stated that global smartphone sales in Q1 2023 fell quite drastically to 20%, then to 6.6% in Q2 with 272 million smartphones produced in that period. Total sales during the second half of this year alone have a total of up to 522 million units. This total itself decreased by 13.3% compared to the first 6 months of 2022 yesterday.
TrendForce itself assesses that there are three main factors causing the decline in global smartphone sales in this period, one of which includes the failure of the smartphone demand driver in China, the demographics of emerging markets that have not generated real demand, and the economic weakness that is still happening at this time limiting consumer spending so that weakened production in the first half more than expected.
Samsung still leads the global smartphone market with production of 53.9 million and market share below 20%, while Apple is in second place with production reaching 42 million and market share of 15.4%. Xiaomi increased production by 32.1% compared to the Q1 period which allowed the brand to overtake Oppo who was in fourth place with 33.6 million production.
