Cameroon news :: Conflict prevention: Paul Biya creates a peacekeeping school :: Cameroon news

The Cameroonian Head of State, through a decree issued this Monday, September 04, 2023, created a Peacekeeping Operations Training School (EFOMP). According to the decree, which creates and fixes the functioning of the military structure, the command is attached to the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The EFOMB is headquartered in Motcheboum, in the east of the country.

Priority missions

The EFOMB deals with the “operational conditioning of national and possibly foreign contingents, as well as personnel designated to serve in the context of peacekeeping missions; capacity building of Ministry of Defense personnel in the realm of peace”.

And the decree of the President of the Republic to continue that if necessary, “the personnel of the national police or other bodies can be recycled at the EFOMB, with the prior agreement of the Ministry in charge of Defence”.

It should nevertheless be noted that the EFOMB was created at a critical time, when the Central African sub-region is facing several security crises. Did the current situation in Gabon inspire Yaoundé, or was it just a coincidence?
