According to him, there are several physical conditions or serious illnesses that affect a person’s mental state.

“Intestine and brain affect mental health. Because they have their own communication system, so what we eat affects our brain,” he said at a media briefing in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/9/2023).

In addition, an imbalance in the flora in the gut can increase inflammatory cells that affect stress in the brain.

So that the symbiosis is disrupted, ultimately affecting mental health.

Thus, a series of tests is needed to address physical problems first.

“Actually there are tests that are related to mental health.

There are at least 12 laboratory tests that affect our mental health levels,” Nelly continued.

One, intestinal health tests to measure levels of microbiota in the stomach.

Two, the HbA1C test to measure glucose or sugar levels in the blood.
